NO LAWS, NOR KINGS

When attempting to reconnect with my northeastern Brazilian roots, I felt the need to study and dive deep into the legends of the cangaço universe that permeated the stories told by my grandma during my childhood.

Inside this pastoral society that is born amidst dry, poor and isolated coastal land, is also born a unique and strong culture, with many elements of the black, indigenous and european cultures. In the artworks, the influences of the woodcuttings in the cordel literature and the mystical elements and symbols inherent to the time period of this Brazilian banditry are all present.

Exhibition realized in São Paulo, in 2017.
